Simon Letzgus is a postdoctoral researcher at the Machine Learning group of Prof. Dr. Klaus-Robert Müller at Technische Universität Berlin. After completing his master’s degree in energy engineering at Stuttgart University in 2015, he joined Siemens Energy to develop technical solutions related to the challenges of renewable energy systems. Since his return to academia, his research has focused on ML solutions for optimizing, monitoring and understanding complex technical systems with a specific emphasis on XAI for regression models. Between 2020 and 2023 he lead the research-cooperation between TU Berlins ML group and BSH Hausgeraete GmbH on developing ML algorithms for smart home appliances. He completed his dissertation “XAI for Understanding Deep Neural Networks in Regression - with Applications to Wind Energy” early 2024 and re-joined the group in February 2025 as a postdoctoral researcher. At the moment, he leads the RIESIQ project for state-of-the-art AI solutions in industrial manufacturing and collaborates with Mayo Clinic to advance Deep Brain Stimulation technology.
